Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann has her new book on shelves today titled, “Core of Conviction.”
The book comes out as Bachmann tries to revive a campaign that has been struggling in past weeks. The Minnesota Republican announced Sunday that she will launch a book tour that will take her to a number of key states, including Iowa and Minnesota.
Writing in the book, Bachmann takes time to score political points and recount what she considers to be key moments of her life.
The Minnesota Republican describes the wonderful feeling of making her high school cheer squad and also the let down of not being asked to her senior prom.
Bachmann reportedly also takes swipes at a number of key Democrats, saying the presidency of Jimmy Carter led her to join the Republican Party.
“It was in the perilous fires of the Carter administration that my ideology was forged. In the seventies, Carter taught me what I was against, and then in the eighties, Reagan taught me what I was for,” Bachmann writes.
The Bachmann campaign said the book is meant to introduce the congresswoman from Minnesota to the base of the Republican Party. Bachmann says the book will provide voters with insights regarding her conservative credentials.
“That’s one thing people know about me, and I hope they’ll know further through the book — there has been a consistency about who I am. I haven’t deviated over the years,” Bachmann said. “I’ve been the same person, but so much of what I’ve become was forged out of either suffering or adversity, and I think adversity and suffering can be the best tools to shape someone’s life.”
