Bobby Jindal: It’s time to create jobs

The State Column | Thursday, September 08, 2011

Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal spent much of Wednesday campaigning ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election, saying lawmakers at both the state level and the federal level should focus on job creation.

“I promised we’d work together to build a better Louisiana,” said Mr. Jindal, speaking to a crowd of supporters. “I said we’d be laser focused on jobs and opportunities. Government can’t create jobs, but it can provide the conditions for job creation.”

“It’s time for us to say enough is enough,” Mr. Jindal added, noting that balancing the budget and cutting spending are also necessary for restoring confidence to the markets.

“We understand that you can’t spend more money than you take in,” the Louisiana Republican said. “Some states like California and Illinois have chosen to raise taxes during the recession. We made a commitment not to raise taxes.

Mr. Jindal’s comment comes as President Obama and House Republicans are likely to clash on a proposed jobs plan, which Mr. Obama will present before a joint session of Congress. The White House said Thursday that Mr. Obama will put forth a plan totaling $300 billion, including an extension of unemployment benefits and additional tax cuts.
