Bush, Clinton speak in Shanksville, Pennsylvania

The State Column | Sunday, September 11, 2011

Former President George W. Bush joined former President Bill Clinton Saturday, speaking in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at the site of where passengers of Flight 93 wrestled control from hijackers, crashing the plane into the field.

“What happened above this Pennsylvania field was among the most courageous acts in American history,” Mr. Bush told a crowd during the dedication of a memorial. “For as long as this memorial stands, we’ll remember … the sacrifice they made and the lives they spared. The United States will never forget.”

Vice President Joseph Biden also spoke at the event.

“None of them asked for what happened. They didn’t board that plane to fight a war, but when they heard the news they knew . . . it was the opening shot in a new war. And so they acted. They acted as citizen patriots have acted since the beginning of our country,” Mr. Biden said.
