Chris Christie to campaign for Mitt Romney

The State Column | Tuesday, November 08, 2011

New Jersey Republican governor Chris Christie will reportedly campaign for Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

The New Jersey Republican, who endorsed Mr. Romney earlier this year, will travel to New Hampshire as part of a series of rallies supporting Mr. Romney’s bid for president.

Mr. Christie will speak at a rally with the former Massachusetts governor and Romney’s campaign says the New Jersey governor will then head to a house party to meet with volunteers.

Mr. Christie’s appearance is likely to spark speculation concerning a potential bid by the Republican governor in 2016. Mr. Christie announced earlier this year that he would not seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, despite supporters calling on him to enter the race.

Polls continue to show Mr. Romney leading in the Granite State, however, former businessman Herman Cain has quickly gained support and is widely seen as a serious challenger to Mr. Romney’s chances of securing the nomination.

Mr. Christie’s appearance comes just days after reports broke the Mr. Romney has increased his presence in Iowa, which will hold the Republican presidential caucus on January 3. Mr. Romney has previously announced he would not compete in the state.
