Chris Christie to Obama: It's not good enough just to read off a teleprompter

The State Column | Wednesday, December 14, 2011

New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie slammed President Obama on Wednesday, questioning whether Mr. Obama has the necessary leadership skills to continue serving a president.

“I would respectfully suggest that this president has had every opportunity to up his game for three years, and he has been on the bench,” said Mr. Christie, who appeared before a luncheon hosted by the Republican Jewish Coalition.

“It is not good enough just to read off a teleprompter, Mr. President,” added Mr. Christie. “What you say is important. What you do is definitional.”

The New Jersey Republican also said Mr. Obama represents “a president who doesn’t have the first idea of how to use executive leadership or, I believe, any significant interest in learning any time soon.”

The comment comes as the New Jersey Republican has sought to increase his voice within the 2012 debate, and has offered his endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Mr. Christie, who announced earlier this year that he would not seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, has remained a vocal critic of Mr. Obama’s administration, attending a number of speaking engagements aimed to supporting Republican policymakers.
