Connecticut has a new governor.
Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy was sworn into office on Wednesday, part of a number of inaugural ceremonies taking place across the country.
The Democrat, who defeated Republican Tom Foley in the state’s gubernatorial election, will replace the retiring Republican Governor M. Jodi Rell.
Mr. Malloy is Connecticut’s 88th governor and the former mayor of Stamford is the first Democrat to hold the job in 20 years.
The Connecticut Democrat has already announced a number of key cabinet officials and decisions, including the newly formed Community Nonprofit Human Services Cabinet, an entity that will “advocate” for nonprofits. The Malloy administration says the the position will function at the same level as the head of a state agency.
