Tennessee Republican congresswoman Diane Black slammed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Tuesday, criticizing the Senate majority leader’s for saying “private sector jobs have been doing just fine.”
“It’s clear that Harry Reid could not be more out of touch. The national unemployment rate has been over 9 percent for too long, and Americans across this country are hurting. I constantly hear from families who are struggling to get by, trying to constantly do more with less,” Ms. Black said in a statement. “Senator Reid thinks that the government can simply spend more money and create government jobs and all will be well.”
The Tennessee Republican blasted the Nevada Democrat, accusing him of now understanding that jobs are created by the private sector, rather than by the federal government.
“How many taxpayer dollars will it take for Harry Reid and his cohorts to realize that that government does not create jobs, the private sector creates jobs?” Ms. Black said.
Ms. Black’s comment comes just days after Mr. Reid, speaking on the Senate floor, urged Senate Republicans to support President Obama’s jobs package.
“It’s very clear,” Mr. Reid said, “that private-sector jobs are doing just fine. It’s public-sector jobs where we’ve lost huge numbers.”
