Donald Trump goes after Sen. Lamar Alexander

The State Column | Tuesday, March 08, 2011

Billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump is going after Tennessee Republican U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander after he said Mr. Trump could not win a run for the presidency.

Mr. Alexander made the comment during an appearance on CNN Monday, saying “someone like Donald Trump who has absolutely no chance of winning.” Mr. Alexander added that Mr. Trump is “famous for being famous.”

Mr. Trump, who is seriously considering a run for president, seemed to not take kindly to the remark.

“Sen. Lamar Alexander, who I do not know and have heard very little about over the years, perhaps because of a certain ineffectiveness, has recently stolen my line, word for word,” Mr. Trump said in response.

The New York Republican raised a ruckus earlier this year when he said Texas Rep. Ron Paul could not win the 2012 presidential campaign. Mr. Trump made the remark at the CPAC convention in Washington, D.C., just days before Mr. Paul won the 2012 CPAC presidential straw poll.

Mr. Trump has said in the past that he is seriously considering a run for president. He noted that he will announce his decision following the latest season of The Apprentice.
