Donald Trump to President Obama: You’re fired

The State Column | Saturday, April 16, 2011

New York Republican and potential Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump slammed President Obama Saturday during a Tea Party rally in Florida, saying it is time for Mr. Obama to leave office.

“George Bush gave us Barack Obama. If it weren’t for George Bush, we wouldn’t have Barack Obama,” Mr. Trump said. “So I’m not thrilled with George Bush.”

The New York billionaire real estate mogul made the comments at his famed Palm Beach estate Mar-a-Lago, speaking to a crowd of nearly 3,500 supporters.

While Mr. Trump hesitated to use his famous praise from his show “The Apprentice,” he seemed to imply it is time for Mr. Obama to leave office.

“We’ve got a long way to go before we start using that. It’s too early, and to be honest it’s too trivial,” Mr. Trump said in reference to his famous phrase. “But I have it in the back of my mind.”

Mr. Trump’s appearance in Florida comes the same day he fared well in the latest string of presidential straw polls. Mr. Trump criticized the Obama administration’s response to the ongoing crisis in Japan, saying “for 30 years, they’ve been ripping us off and taking advantage of us.”

The New York Republican also discussed the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. “In the old days, when we won a war, we won a war.” Mr. Trump said. “You keep the nation, you keep the land, you keep the oil.”
