Gary Johnson reportedly considering third-party bid

The State Column | Friday, November 25, 2011

Republican presidential hopeful, and former governor of New Mexico, Gary Johnson is reportedly considering mounting a third-party bid for the 2012 general election.

“I feel abandoned by the Republican Party,” Mr. Johnson said in an interview with the Santa Fe New Mexican. “The Republican Party has left me by the wayside.”

The New Mexico Republican said exclusion from a number of Republican presidential debates is currently the driving force behind the decision. The Republican presidential candidate has been exempt from many of the recent debates, some of which cite polls that show Mr. Johnson trailing far behind.

“If I’d have been included in 16 of the last debates we wouldn’t even be having this conversation,” Mr. Johnson said.
