Voters in Georgia spent much of Tuesday considering whether to pass a pair of controversial measures, one of which proposes Sunday alcohol package sales and another that seeks to increase taxes to fund education.
Voters turned out across metro Atlanta but lines were reported to be short in most post places without a major statewide or national race to drive people to the polls.
The state joined a number of others states in holding electoral contests on Tuesday. Voters said Tuesday that the ballot measures were driving voter turnout and interest among voters.
The Georgia Legislature gave local municipalities the option of offering voters the chance to weigh in on the issue earlier this year and more than one hundred communities added the issue to the ballot.
