Haley Barbour on presidential campaign: “I am thinking about it”

Mississippi governor Haley Barbour reiterated his interest in seeking the presidency, saying Monday that he is “seriously thinking about it.”

The Republican governor, who spent the weekend courting voters and Republicans in Iowa, returned to the state Sunday after state lawmakers failed to reach consensus on a budget. A number of lawmakers blamed the Republican governor’s interest in seeking the presidency, citing the inability of reach him as a main cause for the failed compromise.

Mr. Barbour appeared on “The 4 O’clock Show” Monday afternoon, saying he is “seriously thinking about” running for president. Mr. Barbour added that he expects to reach a decision by the end of April.

Meanwhile, the Republican governor faces a number of challenges at home. State lawmakers voted in favor of borrowing nearly $500 million in order to pass a budget. Mr. Barbour has said he will focus on the current legislative session before entering the 2012 Republican presidential primary.
