Gov. Bev Perdue, Dems face problem in North Carolina governor’s race

The State Column | Thursday, March 24, 2011

North Carolina Democrats may have a problem.

In a preview of what could be a 2012 rematch, former Republican Pat McCrory leads Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue in a new poll. The poll comes as the Democratic governor continues to face ethics problem.

The survey of N.C. voters, released Tuesday by Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, shows McCrory leading Ms. Perdue 50 percent to 36 percent.

The poll also found a majority of voters disapprove of Ms. Perdue’s job performance. Fifty-two percent of those polled say they disapprove of Ms. Perdue’s performance, while 30 percent say they approve.
