Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal has quelled any speculation concerning his birth place, releasing a copy of his birth certificate just weeks after he said he supports a proposed bill requiring presidential candidates to present copies of their birth certificates.
Mr. Jindal, a Republican, released the birth certificate after speculation concerning the validity of President Obama’s birth certificate, which he attempted to address by releasing his long-form birth certificate late last month.
Mr. Jindal’s birth certificate comes as Louisiana appears to be pushing forward with a proposal aimed at mandating the release of birth certificates for individuals seeking public office. A similar bill has been proposed at the federal level by Louisiana U.S. Senator David Vitter.
“My bill limits birthright citizenship to individuals born in the United States with at least one parent who is a legal citizen, a green card holder or an active member of the U.S. armed forces,” said Sen. David Vitter at the time.
