New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is a popular figure within the Republican party, especially among Massachusetts Republicans, as he will attend a campaign fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, a Massachusetts Republican.
Mr. Christie will attend as a guest speaker for a fundraising event for Mr. Brown’s U.S. Senate re-election campaign on March 5th, at Westin Copley Place in Boston, MA, Boston Herald reports.
The New Jersey governor has also been campaigning for another Massachusetts Republican, as he endorsed former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney for his presidential campaign back in the fall.
Recently Mr. Christie has made headlines for swiftly vetoing a gay marriage bill that cleared both chambers of the New Jersey state legislature last week.
Mr. Brown is hoping that Mr. Christie’s popularity will help bolster support for him in his re-election efforts against the Democratic challenger to his senate seat, Elizabeth Warren, a Harvard Law professor and former chairwoman of the Congressional Oversight Panel.
Ms. Warren is proving to be a formiddable opponent in the traditionally Democratic state of Massachusetts.
A recent WBUR poll of Massachusetts voters shows Ms. Warren leading Mr. Brown, 46-43 percent.
Mr. Brown is known as a moderate Republican who defeated Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley in a 2010 special election to fill the remaining term of the vacant seat of the late U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy.
Recently, he gained some recognition in Congress for introducing the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge Act (STOCK Act), which recently cleared both chambers of Congress.
Supporters attending the fundraiser with Mr. Brown and Mr. Christie will reportedly be asked to give $100-500 for general entry, and $2,500 for VIP entry.
