Gov. Chris Christie set to meet with Jon Huntsman

The State Column | Monday, May 09, 2011

New Jersey governor Chris Christie will reportedly meet with potential Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman in the coming week as the former Utah governor considers entering the 2012 Republican presidential campaign.

The former Utah governor will meet with a number of officials in Florida before heading north to New Jersey, where he is expected to meet with Governor Chris Christie.

Mr. Christie, who has won national praise from Republicans in recent months, is quickly molding himself into a kingmaker as he continues to meet with a number of potential Republican presidential candidates, including former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty.

The meeting between Mr. Christie and Mr. Huntsman will take place just days after Mr. Huntsman met with South Carolina governor Nikki Haley. The South Carolina Republican is seen as a key ally as the state is set to host the second presidential primary election in 2012.

Mr. Huntsman has quickly ramped up his political operation in recent weeks, increasing speculation that he will attempt to enter the 2012 Republican presidential primary. Since leaving his post in the Obama administration late last month, Mr. Huntsman has put together a staff and fundraising apparatus.
