Connecticut governor Dannel Malloy slammed Texas congressman Ron Paul Thursday, saying the Republican presidential candidate is an “idiot.”
Speaking on CNN, the Connecticut Democrat slammed Mr. Paul’s earlier comment questioning whether the Federal Emergency Management Agency should remain fully funded. Mr. Paul made the comment just days after a number of states on East Coast suffered damage related to Hurricane Irene.
“I think he’s an idiot,” Mr. Malloy said.
“This is a ridiculous conversation,” Mr. Malloy added. “I really don’t understand what he’s talking about, and I’m not sure he does.”
Mr. Malloy, a first-term Democratic governor, is currently seeking a federal disaster declaration to bring aid to the state.
Speaking on CNN earlier this week, Mr. Paul slammed the federal agency, calling on congressional lawmakers to reduce funding.
I live on the Gulf Coast. We put up with hurricanes all the time,” the Republican presidential candidate said. “There’s no magic about FEMA. More and more people are starting to recognize that.”
Mr. Paul, who is trailing former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Texas governor Rick Perry in recent polls, has repeatedly called on lawmakers to halt funding for a number of key government agencies, including the Department of Education.
