Gov. Mitch Daniels: I’ll sleep in voters’ homes

The State Column | Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Indiana governor Mitch Daniels is getting close to announcing his candidacy for president, according to his latest interview with the Indiana Star.

“I’m not going to take much longer,” Mr. Daniels said.

The Indiana Republican, who is seen as one of front-runners for the Republican presidential, has floated the possibility of a presidential campaign in recent months.

The potential Republican presidential candidate noted that he would continue to sleep in voters’ homes if he does run for president. Mr. Daniels has made a point of visiting voters and staying overnight during his two statewide campaigns. “It not only saves money but you learn so darn much,” Mr. Daniels said.

He said his goal would be to “take the venom” out of national politics and to “show respect for our opponent.”
