Hawaii governor Neil Abercrombie announced Friday that he will sign the recently passed civil union bill on Wednesday.
The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Video will be streamed live at the governor’s website at http://hawaii.gov/gov.
The bill will allow all couples to enter into a civil union, a legal status with all the rights, benefits, protections and responsibilities as traditional marriage.
The bill makes Hawaii the latest state to pass civil union legislation. State lawmakers attempted to pass the measure in the waning days of last year’s session, but failed to find the necessary votes before the legislature adjourned.
