Gov. O’Malley joins chorus of drawn down inaugural plans

The State Column | Tuesday, January 04, 2011

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley said Monday that he will draw down plans for the state’s inaugural celebration. The move joins a growing group of state governors asking inaugural committees to remain frugal in their planning.

The inauguration will take place Jan. 19 at the statehouse in Annapolis. That evening, a celebration will be conducted at the Fifth Regiment Armory in Baltimore.

Mr. O’Malley’s spokesman said the inaugural parade will not take place.

The Maryland Democrat won re-election after defeating Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Ehrlich.

California governor Jerry Brown, who was sworn in on Monday, led the charge against elaborate inaugural displays, saying state’s need to remain frugal while unemployment remains high.
