New Mexico governor Susana Martinez hit the national stage over the weekend, traveling to Colorado to speak to state Republicans.
The New Mexico governor, who won national attention over her stances on immigration reform and border security, delivered the keynote address at the annual Centennial Dinner.
The Republican governor used the speech to urge Colorado’s GOP to remain true to values such as smaller government and lower taxes as it moves into the 2012 election season.
“Colorado Republicans must be able to communicate with registered voters and find ways to get them to consider voting for Republican candidates,” Martinez told The Denver Post.
The New Mexico governor remains a rising star within the Republican Party, having her name floated as a potential Republican vice presidential candidate.
Ms. Martinez defeated Democratic gubernatorial candidate Diane Denish during the 2010 election, making her the first female governor in the state’s history.
