Haley Barbour set to assist Karl Rove

The State Column | Friday, September 09, 2011

Mississippi governor Haley Barbour is set to assist former White House adviser Karl Rove, offering to raise nearly $250 million for the coming election.

Mr. Barbour is joining American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, an influential Republican Super PAC and an affiliated non-profit group, to help them reach their newly doubled fundraising goal of $240 million to spend on the 2012 presidential election.

Mr. Barbour, who is set to leave office later this year, is term-limited. The Mississippi Republican announced earlier this year that he would not seek the Republican presidential nomination.

Crossroads GPS, which does not have to disclose its donors under the tax code, and American Crossroads, which does, are credited with helping Republicans take control of the House last year. They raised a combined $71 million for that effort.
