Utah U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch said Wednesday that a press conference held by President Obama was little more than a ‘temper tantrum.’
“I wish I could report that Washington is serious about addressing this spending problem, but in the last week we seem to have hit a new low,” Mr. Hatch said.
“President Obama’s contribution last week was a press conference slash temper tantrum where he offered up policy proposals that might appeal to his left-wing base but will do nothing to avoid the bankruptcy.”
The Utah Republican, who is facing a tough re-election bid, is the latest Republican to offer up criticism of President Obama’s approach to reaching a deal on raising the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit.
Virginia Republican Rep. Eric Cantor chided President Obama last week, demanding Mr. Obama take a more aggressive role in reaching a deal on reducing spending. Congressional Democrats, meanwhile, have demanded revenue raising measures along with steep spending cuts, a move Republicans say they will oppose.
