Herman Cain leads latest poll

The State Column | Thursday, June 09, 2011

Former Godfather’s CEO Herman Cain is leading the latest presidential poll out of Georgia.

In an InsiderAdvantage Poll on the candidates for the GOP Primary in Georgia, Mr. Cain received 26 percent of the vote, more than double the next candidate. Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann received 13 percent, while former House speaker Newt Gingrich came in third at 12 percent.

The poll is the first to find Mr. Cain as the leading Republican presidential candidate in Georgia. The former CEO is a native of the state and has increasingly polled well in a series of recent surveys.

The poll found support for former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who came in at fourth with 11 percent. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney received just 10 percent. Twenty-two percent of the Georgia residents say they remain undecided.

The Republican presidential candidate has spent the past several days increasing his national profile. In an interview set to air on the Christian Broadcasting Network, Mr. Cain says most Americans continue to want god in their daily life.

“What’s in their heart is they love this country, they love the values upon which this country was founded and they don’t like it when the president omits ‘endowed by their Creator,” Mr. Cain said. “Most of the people that I talk to, … not the mainstream media, they do not want God to be taken out of our culture.”
