The Weather Channel is reporting the following forecast for Tuesday’s Iowa caucus vote: Generally sunny despite a few afternoon clouds. High 41F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph. There is also a 10 percent chance of rain.
In Des Moines, Iowa’s most populous city, The Des Moines Register is expecting temperatures to be in the upper 30s in the afternoon, slightly warmer than it was there on Monday.
Political analysts believe the weather could serve as a determining factor in the outcome of the Iowa caucuses.
According to CNN, out of the more than 700,000 registered Republican voters in the Hawkeye state, only 100,000 or so of them are expected to actually participate in the Iowa caucus.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee believes Texas Congressman Ron Paul has the best chance at winning in the event that the weather conditions are severe Tuesday.
“If the weather is bad and it’s real tough to get out, Ron Paul would win,” Mr. Huckabee said on Fox News’ “Fox Sunday with Chris Wallace.”
Mr. Huckabee posited that if the weather is better Mr. Romney will win. However, Mr. Huckabee acknowledged that Mr. Paul has “people that would walk over broken glass for him and they’d break the glass just to be able to say they did it.
Since the weather is not expected to be a major factor, those supporting each candidate are likely to not have a problem getting to their voting locations.
