Lady Gaga to Bill Clinton: Bad Romance

The State Column | Sunday, October 16, 2011

Former President Bill Clinton said Sunday that he nearly had a heart attack when he heard the title of a song performed by Lady Gaga celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Clinton Foundation.

“I got nervous when Gaga said she was planning to have a Marilyn moment and I thought ‘I will have a heart attack for my 65th birthday.’” the former president said Sunday.

The former president, who was on hand for the celebration, spent the night with his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and his daughter, Chelsea Clinton, watching Lady Gage perform “Bad Romance,” which she cleverly retitled “Bill Romance.”

“I’m having my first real Marilyn moment,” Lady Gaga told the crowd at the “Decade of Difference” concert last night after wishing Mr. Clinton a happy birthday and before launching into a rendition of “Bad Romnance.”

Sitting at the piano in a tan gown, she purred “Happy Birthday” to President Clinton. In her tribute to the actress, who sang for President John F. Kennedy, she told the audience, “I always wanted a Marilyn moment — but didn’t want it to involve pills and pearls.”

Wearing only a beige body suit and heels by the end of the performance, Gaga remove articles of clothing during the performance.

“So tonight, I just thought we’d all get caught up in a little ‘Bill Romance,’” she said.

At one point, while gyrating directly in front of the Clinton family, Gaga quipped, “It’s a good thing I used to dance on bars, right?”
