New Mexico governor Susana Martinez said Wednesday that her administration is committed to fighting the Los Alamos fire, assuring the public that all resources available are being used to fight the massive blaze burning near Los Alamos.
Ms. Martinez said Wednesday that 1,000 firefighters have been sent to battle the blaze which began.
The New Mexico governor also announced a state of emergency ban on fireworks.

The New Mexico governor also noted that she has increased coordination with the federal government. Part of the effort will include a special twin-engine plane that was dispatched by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Republican governor said the state will begin enhanced air quality assessments in addition to chemical and radiological air samples.
“It is critical that community members as well as federal, state, and local emergency crews have the best possible information as we work to ensure the safety of all New Mexicans affected by the Las Conchas fire,” said Ms. Martinez.
The Los Alamos fire is the same blaze threatening the Los Alamos Nuclear Facility. Lab officials said Wednesday that nuclear material remains secure and that the public should not be concerned.
