Louisiana Election Results: Gov. Bobby Jindal Wins

The State Column | Saturday, October 22, 2011

The Louisiana election results are in: Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has won re-election to a second term, reports The New York Times. Jindal was a shoe-in to win re-election as the Louisiana Governor faced no serious competition for the position. Jindal, who faced 9 other candidates for Louisiana Governor needed 50 percent or more of the votes to win re-election.

According to a WWL-TV poll, Jindal’s victory in the Louisiana election was nearly a given. Jindal received 57 percent of the votes in the WWL-TV poll of 602 likely voters in the Louisiana election. As quoted on WWLTV.com, Dr. Ron Faucheux said that “Gov. Jindal is in very good shape politically right now. He’s poised to win re-election in landslide victory.” Faucheux oversaw the WWL-TV poll.

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, Jindal received 68.3 percent of the votes in the Louisiana election. Tara Hollis grabbed second place with 16.7 percent of the votes. Bloomberg Businessweek released these numbers with 19 percent of voting precincts reporting.

“I will use every day, every hour of these next four years to make Louisiana the very best that we can be,” Jindal told his supporters as quoted in The New York Times. “I don’t believe in resting on our past accomplishments. I don’t believe in taking time off,” Jindal added.

Nearly two weeks prior to the election, Jindal was endorsed by the Ouachita Citizen. “Besides improving Louisiana’s reputation here at home and across the country, Jindal’s most significant contribution since he took office in January 2008 – from our vantage point – concerns the hard line he has taken on not raising taxes to fuel the misguided demand for more and bigger government,” the editorial read.
