Mitt Romney wins the Maine Republican caucuses

The Associated Press is reporting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has won the Maine Republican caucuses to defeat rival Ron Paul by a small margin.

According to Reuters, 95 percent of the votes have been counted, and Mr. Romney has 39 percent of the votes thus far with Mr. Paul currently sitting at 36 percent.

Saturday concludes the Maine caucus voting, although there will be another caucus held in in March, none of the votes recorded after Saturday will count towards delegate votes, according to Maine Republican Party chairman Charlie Webster.

There are a total of 24 delegate votes up for grabs in the Maine caucuses, and delegate votes from Maine will be distributed proportionally.

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum reportedly finished the caucuses in third place, trailed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in fourth.

In addition to winning the Maine caucuses, Mr. Romney also notched a key victory by winning the CPAC straw poll.
