Mayor Cory Booker announces city will lower flags for Whitney Houston

The State Column | Thursday, February 16, 2012

Mayor Cory A. Booker announced today that the City of Newark will lower all of the flags over its municipal buildings to half-staff to honor the life of Newark native and music legend Whitney Houston tomorrow, Friday, February 17, and on the day of her funeral, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, February 18, at Noon, at New Hope Baptist Church. The church is located at 106 Sussex Avenue in Newark’s Central Ward. The funeral service will be private and not open to the public.

“Our City is mourning the loss of one of its native daughters and one of music’s shining stars. Whitney Houston inspired so many people, and although she went from a Newark church to the global stage, she always remained a deep part of our city’s pride and collective heart. Our prayers continue to be with her family during this difficult time,” said Mayor Booker.
