New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg had some harsh words for the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Occupy Wall Street protesters are trying to make a statement about corporate greed by staging protests in Manhattan that have spread to other cities throughout the United States.
Speaking on his weekly radio show, Bloomberg called the Occupy Wall Street protests unproductive. “What they’re trying to do is take the jobs away from people working in this city,” Bloomberg said as quoted in Reuters. “Their salaries come from the taxes paid by the people they’re trying to vilify,” Bloomberg added.
Despite criticizing the protesters, Bloomberg acknowledged that he is “sympathetic to some of their complaints.”
The Occupy Wall Street protesters are upset about a number of issues, including the 2008 bank bailout. The Occupy Wall Street protests have spread as far west as Portland, OR, reports OregonLive.com. On Thursday, thousands of people demonstrated at Pioneer Courthouse Square as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
Last week on his weekly radio show, Bloomberg compared the Occupy Wall Street protests to the Vietnam War protests. “I remember in the Vietnam War there were enormous protests on Wall Street,” Bloomberg said as quoted in The New York Times.
