Fox News obtained an advanced copy of Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann’s new memoir “Core of Conviction: My Story,” which contains harsh criticism of former president George W. Bush’s last months in office.
The Minnesota congresswoman criticized Bush for signing the Troubled Asset Relief Program into law in late 2008, a $700 billion bailout of major financial institutions which she staunchly opposed at the time.
“The Bush administration, which had always professed faith in the free-market system, was now reversing its course,” Bachmann wrote, adding that she was also disappointed in Arizona Sen. John McCain and House Speaker John Boehner for supporting the measure at that time.
She goes on to take more jabs at Bush, recalling how the former president once told her how his wife Laura gave him the following ultimatum, “It’s either Jack Daniels or me.”
Bachmann, who currently trails GOP rivals Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Herman Cain in the latest polls, was most critical of the Obama administration’s 2009 $787 billion stimulus program, saying the funds were mishandled.
“Those in the Obama administration didn’t care where the stimulus money was going,” wrote Bachmann. “what really mattered was spreading money to their friends and political allies — the big-city liberal mayors, the Saul Alinksy nostalgists, the ACORN activists, the taxpayer-subsidy-dependent green-jobs propagandists, and all the other moochers, hustlers and rent seekers demanding ‘a place at the table’ when liberals control the White House.”
“Core of Conviction: My Story,” is set to be released on November 21st.
