Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Huck PAC have endorsed Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst for U.S. Senate from Texas. Mr. Dewhurst made the announcement on his blog Monday. Huckabee, who has yet to endorse anyone for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, called Mr. Dewhurst a “strong fiscal conservative.”
Mr. Dewhurst has been “an ardent supporter of legislation to create new jobs and improve the economy of Texas,” Mr. Huckabee wrote in a blog on Mr. Dewhurst’s campaign site. He has “repeatedly helped cut spending and taxes, including the largest tax cut in Texas history and balancing every budget since taking office,” Mr. Huckabee added.
Mr. Dewhurst’s boss, Governor Rick Perry (R-TX), is running for the Republican presidential nomination. Mr. Perry has frequently cited the fact that Texas has created 40 percent of the nation’s new jobs since June 2009.
“Not only is he a fiscal conservative, but he shares our social values as well and will continue to fight for our shared values in Washington,” Mr. Huckabee posited.
In May, Mr. Huckabee made it clear that he would not seek the Republican presidential nomination. “I can’t know or predict the future, but I know for now, my answer is clear and firm: I will not seek the Republican nomination for president this year,” Mr. Huckabee said on his Fox News Channel show.
Mr. Dewhurst has served the state of Texas as Lt. Governor and President of the Texas Senate since 2003.
