Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell slammed President Obama’s jobs plan Tuesday, the latest indication that Mr. Obama will face an uphill battle in his attempt pass his latest jobs proposal.
“The first thing to say about this plan is it’s now obvious why the president left out the specifics last week,” said McConnell. “Not only does it reveal the political nature of this bill, it also reinforces the growing perception that this administration isn’t all that interested in economic policies that will actually work.”
The comment is the first from Mr. McConnell since Mr. Obama put forth his proposal for lowering the nation’s rate of unemployment, which remains above 9 percent.
Speaking Tuesday, Mr. McConnell said Republican lawmakers would consider Mr. Obama’s American Jobs Act, noting that Republican lawmakers are considering amendments to the proposal. The Kentucky Republican also said Mr. Obama’s plan had more to do with getting re-elected than getting Americans back to work.
“Claiming this bill is bipartisan may sound good if you’re out there on the campaign trail, but surely the president could come up with some proposals that both sides had not already rejected,” Mr. McConnell said.
