Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney seems to have found a supporter in Utah.
Utah Rep. Jason Chffatez said Thursday that he is prepared to support the former Masschusetts governor’s potential bid for president, but noted that he will not endorse Mr. Romney quite yet.
“I’m not endorsing anybody at this point, but he invited me to attend and I’m pleased he invited me,” said Mr. Chaffetz told the Salt Lake Tribune. “I really like Mitt and he has been very good to me.”
Mr. Romney has assisted Mr. Chaffetz in fundraising in the past and the Utah Republican has supported Mr. Romney’s previous attempt at winning the presidency.
The battle for support in Utah will likely pit Mr. Romney against former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, who is also expected to enter the 2012 Republican presidential campaign. Recent polls show strong support for Mr. Romney, while GOP voters seems to struggle to identify their former governor.
