Speaking Saturday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said his campaign will continue to focus resources on winning the Georgia primary, which he told supporters “is vital.’
“I think it’s vital to win Georgia,” the Republican presidential candidate said in a interview with Marietta Daily Journal.
Mr. Gingrich, who has struggled to recapture momentum following his victory in the South Carolina primary, remains far behind, according to recent polls. Recent polls show the former House speaker trailing former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum by double-digits.
Still, Mr. Gingirch express confidence, noting his campaign has raised millions of dollars since the beginning of the month.
“We’ve raised enough to sustain the campaign in about 30 or 40 states, so we’re doing pretty well. I don’t know the exact numbers. We had a very good swing in California, and we had a goal of raising $2 million in California altogether since the campaign started,” said Mr. Gingrich.
