Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s poll ratings are shrinking in a key state: Georgia.
Just 39 percent of Georgia voters have a favorable opinion of the former Republican congressman, compared to 47 percent who view him unfavorably, according to a new survey by Public Policy Polling. Only half of respondents say Mr. Gingrich should run for president, while 31 percent say he should seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
The poll comes as Mr. Gingrich continues to push forward with a presidential exploratory committee. The former House Speaker has traveled to a number of key presidential primary states in recent months, including New Hampshire and South Carolina.
The survey of 790 Georgia voters has a sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
