Orrin Hatch: President Obama is not Jesus

The State Column | Saturday, February 04, 2012

Utah Republican U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch slammed President Obama Friday, using the president’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast as a starting point.

The Utah Republican, who has been a vocal critic of the Obama administration, referenced Mr. Obama’s speech on Friday, in which he said his plan to raise taxes on wealthy Americans is rooted in Jesus’ teaching “for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,” as well as in Islamic and Jewish values.

“In 2008, the president declared that his nomination was the world historical moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal,” Hatch said in a speech from the Senate floor.

“Someone needs to remind the president that there was only one person who walked on water, and he did not occupy the Oval Office,” Mr. Hatch added. “I think most Americans would agree that the Gospels are concerned with weightier matters than effective tax rates.”
