Jim Pederson, one of Arizona’s strongest Democratic leaders, today endorsed Andrei Cherny for Congress explaining that Cherny is “the only candidate with a proven record of delivering for Arizona’s families.”
Yesterday, former Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard announced his support for Cherny.
“A lot of politicians talk about changing Washington,” Pederson said. “Andrei has actually done it. He took on the powerful Wall Street interests to push for a consumer watchdog agency. There’s no doubt about it – Andrei is the only candidate with a proven record of delivering for Arizona’s middle class families.”
Pederson is well known for transforming the state Democratic Party and helping to deliver key victories to Democrats over the last dozen years. A prominent Valley business leader who has worked to create thousands of Arizona jobs, Pederson was also the 2006 Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate.
Pederson said Cherny did a great job as state party chair and is the right candidate for the new congressional district. “Democrats have to win if we are to change Arizona and win back the house, and Andrei offers the Democrats’ best chance of winning the seat,” said Pederson.
Cherny said he’s proud to have Pederson’s support.
“Jim has been such a strong leader for our state, and his contributions to the Democratic Party are immeasurable,” he said. “He is an important part of this campaign to save middle class families.”
Cherny is running for Congress in Arizona’s new Ninth Congressional District, which includes north and central Phoenix, Arcadia, Ahwatukee, Tempe, and portions of Chandler, Mesa, Paradise Valley and Scottsdale.
