Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is making headway in Michigan, according to the latest poll released over the weekend.
The Massachusetts Republican, who is widely seen as the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, is leading Texas governor Rick Perry, 37 percent to 17 percent. The poll was conducted by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA.
Pollsters noted that Mr. Romney’s lead in the key political state was somewhat surprising, considering the current momentum of Mr. Perry.
“To think that Michigan Republicans have attached themselves to him this quickly, giving him not the terribly distant 17 percent to Mit Romney’s 32 percent, it’s probably a little surprising. The activity on the internet among conservative voters and among Republicans has probably benefitted him a great deal,” the poll notes.
The poll is the latest to find Mr. Romney as the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.
