Rep. Heinrich votes in favor of unemployment extension

The State Column | Tuesday, February 21, 2012

U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) released the following statement after voting to extend the payroll tax cut through the end of the year. The conference agreement on H.R. 3630, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act, would extend a two-percentage-point payroll tax cut through the end of 2012, continue federal Unemployment Insurance programs through the end of the year, and ensure Medicare beneficiaries continue to have access to their physicians by blocking a 27.4 percent cut in Medicare physician payment rates, scheduled for March 1, 2012. The bill passed the House with a 293-132 vote.

“I’m pleased that a compromise was reached that supports the middle class,” said Rep. Heinrich. “While this deal wasn’t perfect, by extending the payroll tax cut, middle-class families in New Mexico will continue to see a little more money every month in their pay checks and seniors can continue to see their doctors under Medicare.”
