Rep. Jack Kingston on spending reduction resolution

The State Column | Saturday, January 07, 2012

Washington, Feb 11 – Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA), Chairman of the House Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement on the continuing resolution introduced by Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY):

“Across America, families and small businesses have been forced to face budget realities. Today Chairman Rogers has delivered the federal government’s first step toward doing the same. As a nation we face the largest debt in our history and, accordingly, this will be the largest spending reduction in the history of the United States Congress.

“On the Agriculture Subcommittee, our members have worked diligently to deliver cuts and not a single account has been spared. At $18.1 billion, it is $5.2 billion below last year and $5 billion below the President’s FY 2011 budget request. In everything we do over the coming year we will continue looking for efficiencies to ensure that this is just the first act.

“I am encouraged by the President’s stated goal of reducing spending and I hope that Minority Leader Pelosi and House Democrats will join us in our efforts. I look forward to taking up debate on this important legislation and to continue in our commitment to rein in government.”
