Rep. Martha Roby issued the following statement after the Senate announced it will join the House in appointing conferees to the Conference Committee to begin negotiating language to extend the payroll tax holiday for an entire year.
“In our continued fight for hard-working American taxpayers, my colleagues and I realize that we need to move forward, and the House is taking steps now to ensure that a short-term extension is in place to prevent the end of the payroll tax holiday. While I’m disappointed that Senate Democrats have so far refused to provide a full-year extension, I’m pleased that they agreed to go to Conference to negotiate a long-term, full-year deal. I look forward to Congress getting back to work to ensure that the payroll tax holiday and the ‘Doc Fix’ are extended in a way that provides certainty to job creators and senior citizens.”
Today, the House passed a 60-day extension of the payroll tax reduction, unemployment benefits, and Medicare physician reimbursement rates after the Democrat-led Senate agreed to appoint conferees and begin working with House Republican negotiators on a long-term solution.
