Tennessee congressman Phil Roe is being credited with saving a man’s life after administering CPR after the man collapsed in a North Carolina airport.

Mr. Roe, a Tennessee Republican, reportedly assisted in resuscitating the man who collapsed and flatlined at the Charlotte airport, according South Carolina Republican congressman Mick Mulvaney. Mr. Roe, who first elected in 2008, was an obstetrician-gynecologist before running for Congress.

“When I got there, he wasn’t breathing,” Rep. Roe told The Daily Caller in a phone interview. “I think there was another doctor there, but we didn’t really have a chance to introduce ourselves. I just said, ‘I’m Dr. Roe, so and so,’ and then we just dived on top of the guy and started giving him CPR.”

Speaking Tuesday, Mr. Mulvaney said Mr. Roe’s act likely save the man’s life.

“The guy was dead,” Mr. Mulvaney said. “There’s no question.”

Mr. Roe’s spokesperson said the former Johnson City mayor also applied a defibrillator to help restart the man’s heart.

The Republican’s office said the man may have suffered a heart attack. Mr. Roe told The Daily Caller that the man would likely have died if CPR was not administered.

“We called the hospital and they think he is going to make it,” Mr. Roe’s office said. “They thought it was a possible heart attack.”
