The State Column | Thursday, February 02, 2012

New York City real estate mogul Donald Trump is set to endorse Mitt Romney, according to CNN, which has cited sources with “knowledge of the endorsement.”

The “Apprentice” star will reportedly make the announcement Thursday at 12:30pm from the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Las Vegas, according to Mr. Trump’s Twitter account.

All of the remaining candidates have sough an endorsement from Mr. Trump. In 2011, each candidate held separate meetings with him at Trump Towers in New York.

Sources had previously been reporting that Mr. Trump would endorse Mr. Gingrich, however it now appears that he will give his support to Mr. Romney.

The real estate mogul has made his presence felt throughout the Republican primary race. In 2011, it was rumored that Mr. Trump would launch a candidacy for the Republican nomination in 2012. He kept the option of running as a third party candidate in the fall open.

In December, Mr. Trump made it clear that he would not be endorsing former Republican candidate Jon Huntsman or Texas congressman Ron Paul after they scoffed at his offer to moderate Newsmax’s nationally televised presidential debate.

Mr. Trump has consistently voiced his opposition to President Barack Obama via his Twitter account. In 2011, New York real estate mogul called upon Mr. Obama to release his birth certificate.

The reality television star congratulated Mr. Romney for his win in the Florida Republican primary election Tuesday.

“Congratulations to @MittRomney for an impressive win in Florida. He performed well under pressure,” tweeted Mr. Trump Tuesday.

The latest polls project that Mr. Romney is headed for another huge victory in the Nevada caucuses on Saturday.
