New Jersey Republican governor Chris Christie will reportedly not seek the Republican presidential nomination, according to sources close to the governor.
Mr. Christie has scheduled a press conference at 1 p.m. ET at the New Jersey statehouse in Trenton, New Jersey.
The announcement comes as Mr. Christie was heavily courted to reconsider by large Republican donors as well as a handful of elected officials and party activists in key states. The New Jersey Republican has repeatedly insisted that he would not seek the 2012 nomination, citing his current responsibilities as governor.
Mr. Christie’s decision not to seek the nomination is likely good news for former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Texas Republican governor Rick Perry — both of whom are largely seen as the Republican front-runners.
