Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is reportedly postponing a long scheduled fundraiser hosted by former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty and former Minnesota U.S. senator Norm Coleman, saying he will instead concentrate on preparing for an upcoming Republican presidential debate.
“We regret to inform you that our 11/21 event for Mitt Romney has been postponed. Governor Romney has just agreed to participate in a debate that will require debate prep on that evening,” Pawlenty and Coleman said in a statement released over the weekend. “Governor Romney has told us that he is both overwhelmed and grateful for the financial support of Minnesotans for our event.”
The fundraiser comes as Romney have pushed for additional support in his bid to secure the Republican presidential nomination. The Massachusetts Republican has struggled to gain widespread support in recent months, even as polls continue to show him as one of the leading candidates for the 2012 nomination.
Speaking over the weekend, Pawlenty and Coleman call for a united party, saying Republican voters should support the eventual nominee, regardless of which candidate secures the nomination.
“We believe it is time to unite behind one Presidential candidate. We need your contribution so that after Super Tuesday, Mitt Romney will be able to start his campaign against President Obama immediately. Obama will be flush with funds and we must be too,” Pawlenty and Coleman said.
The CNN debate, which is slated to air Tuesday night, will be focus on foreign policy.
