Ron Paul raises $4.5 million January

The State Column | Monday, February 20, 2012

Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul has raised a whooping $4.5 million for his presidential bid, according to Federal Election Commission reports filed on Monday.

Mr. Paul, who has yet to win a Republican presidential primary or caucus, announced the final tally, adding that his campaign ended the month with $1.6 million in the bank.

The multi-million dollar fundraiser comes as Mr. Paul has vowed to remain in the 2012 race. Speaking Monday, Mr. Paul’s campaign manager, John Tate, said he is unsure how many delegates the Texas Republican has amassed in caucus states, however, he predicted that Mr. Paul remains in position to secure a large number of delegates.

“We are confident that when all is said and done and some of these caucus states finish their process that we will end up with either a good plurality or a majority of the delegates out of Maine, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, possibly Colorado,” said Mr. Tate.

The Texas Republican, in an interview on Sunday, echoed his adviser’s prediction, saying his campaign is doing “pretty well.”

“The bottom line is, who is going to get the delegates and we think we’re doing pretty good,” Mr. Paul said on CNN.

The announcement comes as Mr. Paul spent Monday at a North Dakota campaign trip Monday with visits to Jamestown and Bismarck. The Texas Republican is speaking at legislative district conventions to attract support for next month’s North Dakota Republican presidential caucuses. The Bismarck convention Monday night will include Republican activists from the city’s five legislative districts.
