Speaking Monday, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin slammed President Obama’s deficit reduction plan, saying the president is “playing us for fools.”
“I thought the president was very bold in his request for another blank check,” Ms. Palin said on Fox News. “I don’t consider it a plan at all.”
“They want to shove something down our throats even though it’s inconsistent with economic principles that can work in facing the problems we have with our economy,” the former governor added.
Ms. Palin, who reportedly remains interested in seeking the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, said Mr. Obama’s plan for the administration’s latest attempt to push “failed economics.”
“They want to shove something down our throats even though it’s inconsistent with economic principles that can work in facing the problems we have with our economy,” Ms. Palin said.
The Alaska Republican’s comment comes as Mr. Obama, speaking from the White House Rose Garden on Monday, called on congressional lawmakers to support his proposal. Mr. Obama said the measure, which would include increasing taxes on individuals making more than $1 million, should face little resistance from Congress.
“The proposals in this jobs bill are the kinds that have been supported by Democrats and Republicans in the past. So there shouldn’t be any reason for Congress to drag its feet. They should pass it right away. I’m ready to sign a bill. I’ve got the pens all ready,” Mr. Obama said.
However, speaking Monday, House Speaker John Boehner and Republicans leaders condemned Mr. Obama’s proposal, vowing to oppose the proposal.
“Pitting one group of Americans against another is not leadership. The Joint Select Committee is engaged in serious work to tackle a serious problem: the debt crisis that is making it harder to get our economy growing and create more American jobs,” the Ohio Republican said.
