Speaking Saturday, Massachusetts U.S. Senator Scott Brown used the Republican weekly address to criticize his Senate counterparts, saying Democrats have succumbed to politics.
Mr. Brown, a Republicans, urged Senate passage of legislation that would repeal a 3 percent withholding mandate on payments to many contractors who do business with the federal government. The Massachusetts Republican said the current measure represents a “job killer” that needs repealing.
“One breakthrough has a way of leading to other breakthroughs. One show of good will has a way of spreading good will,” Mr. Brown said. “This jobs bill, if we move it forward, can be followed by many more that can do even greater good. So hey, let’s start here. Let’s get this economy creating jobs once again, and show that we can come together when it’s needed most.”
“The decision pretty much rests with Majority Leader Harry Reid. Are we going to do something for the American people, or are we going to let politics win out again?” the Massachusetts Republican added.
Mr. Brown, who is facing a tough bid for re-election, urged Republicans to consider components of President Obama’s latest jobs bill, saying Republicans have agreed to similar proposals in the past.
“One breakthrough has a way of leading to other breakthroughs. One show of good will has a way of spreading good will,” Brown added. “This jobs bill, if we move it forward, can be followed by many more that can do even greater good. So hey, let’s start here. Let’s get this economy creating jobs once again, and show that we can come together when it’s needed most.”
